The Wisconsin Old West Shootists are a Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS) club affiliated with both the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) and National Congress of Old West Shootists (NCOWS).
Cowboy Action Shooting is a diverse shooting sport in which contestants compete in an Old West style with guns typical of those that won the west – single action revolvers, pistol caliber lever action rifles, and old time shotguns. Shooters test their mettle against steel targets on courses comprised of different shooting stages earning scores based on speed and accuracy. Costuming is a unique requirement of Cowboy Action Shooting. Stepping onto a CAS range is like stepping back in time!
The Wisconsin Old West Shootists host 4 large shooting events each year: Smoke in the Hills is the Wisconsin State Blackpowder Championship, held in June; Guns in the Hills in the NCOWS Midwest Regional Championship, held in July; Fire in the Hills, held in August, is our largest annual match and is the Wisconsin State Championship on a rotating basis shared with the Western Wisconsin Wild Bunch and Rock River Regulators. In May, we host a Shootout Cancer charity event where all donations go towards cancer research.
