The Wisconsin Old West Shootists are a Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS) club affiliated with both the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) and National Congress of Old West Shootists (NCOWS).
Cowboy Action Shooting is a diverse shooting sport in which contestants compete in an Old West style “competition”, using guns typical of those that won the west – single action revolvers, pistol caliber lever action rifles, and old-time shotguns. Shooters test their mettle against steel targets on courses comprised of different shooting stages, the majority of which are set up in each clubs’ version of an old west town; scoring is based on speed and accuracy. Costuming is a unique requirement of Cowboy Action Shooting, as each participant chooses their own alias, and dresses the part. Stepping onto a CAS range is like stepping back in time!
The Wisconsin Old West Shootists host 4 large shooting events each year: Smoke in the Hills (SITH)is the Wisconsin State Blackpowder Championship, held in June; Guns in the Hills GITH) is the NCOWS Midwest Regional Championship, held in July; Fire in the Hills (FITH), held in August, is our largest annual match and is the Wisconsin State Championship on a rotating basis shared with the Rock River Regulators. Lastly, there’s Wild in the Hills (WITH), the Wisconsin State Wild Bunch Championship. See our complete schedule for specific dates.
